GRU Water Story

GRU is fortunate to tap into one of the country’s highest-quality water supplies and honors this resource through sustainable reuse that focuses on environmental restoration, irrigation and groundwater replenishment.

Source

GRU supplies our community’s drinking water from deep underground. Pumps (or wells) are used to withdraw the water from the Floridan aquifer. GRU works with local, state and federal agencies to ensure that this water source is sustained and protected for our community’s use.

Collection

Water used by our community is collected from homes and businesses by GRU’s wastewater collection system. The collection system is a network of underground pipes and pump stations that deliver the used water to GRU’s water reclamation facilities for treatment.

Reclamation

GRU has two water reclamation facilities that utilize biological, chemical and physical processes to treat (or reclaim) water used throughout our community. This water is highly treated and beneficially reused in our environment.

Beneficial Reuse

GRU beneficially reuses ALL of the used water collected from our community. Reclaimed water is used for environmental restoration, groundwater recharge, aesthetic water features, irrigation and industrial cooling.
